The Pepper Corydoras, also known as the Salt and Pepper Cory, is a peaceful freshwater catfish that is popular in community aquariums due to its hardy nature and attractive marbled pattern of dark, pepper-like spots across its body. This species is highly social and thrives in groups, often spending its time foraging along the bottom of the tank for food. Pepper Corydoras typically grow to about 2.5 inches (6 cm) and can live up to 5-8 years in captivity with proper care.

Habitat and Tank Requirements:
In the wild, Pepper Corydoras are found in slow-moving streams, ponds, and rivers with soft, sandy substrates. To replicate their natural environment, it’s important to provide soft water, plenty of hiding spots, and a substrate that won’t harm their sensitive barbels.

Temperature 68-77°F (20-25°C)
pH 6.0-7.5

Regular water changes are essential to maintain water quality and ensure a healthy environment for these fish.

By offering a variety of these high-quality foods, you can help maintain the vitality and well-being of your fish, promoting a healthy and thriving aquarium environment.

Behavior and Compatibility:

Pepper Corydoras are peaceful, social fish that do best in groups of at least 4-6 individuals. They are bottom dwellers and spend much of their time foraging along the substrate for food, making them excellent scavengers in community tanks. Their calm demeanor makes them ideal companions for a variety of peaceful species, including tetras, rasboras, guppies, and other non-aggressive fish.

Due to their friendly nature, Pepper Corydoras are well-suited for community aquariums but should not be housed with aggressive or large fish that could cause stress or harm. They also appreciate tank mates that share similar water parameters and temperaments.
