ADA Aqua Soil – Amazonia Ver. 2

Bring life, depth, and balance to your planted aquarium — with the refined substrate trusted by nature aquarists worldwide.

Key Benefits & Highlights

Rich Natural Base Material
Amazonia Ver. 2 is crafted from a specially processed black soil (rare Japanese black soil) to act as both a substrate and nutrient reservoir — delivering a darker, natural bed that contrasts beautifully with vibrant aquatic plants.

Included Amazonia Supplement for Flexibility
Each pack includes a pellet-type Amazonia Supplement. When placed beneath the soil layer, it provides organic compounds, nitrogen, and trace elements without exposing them directly to the water column — reducing turbidity and lowering risks of algae bloom.

Optimizes Water Chemistry for Plants
The soil actively buffers water, lowering pH and softening it to conditions favorable for most aquatic plants (target range pH ~5.5–6.5).
This adjustment helps make nutrients more bioavailable and supports healthier root growth.

Natural Granule Structure
The substrate contains irregularly shaped granules to mimic a natural riverbed. This granularity promotes water and oxygen circulation through the substrate, resisting compaction over time.
It also captures fine particles (“colloid particles”) to clarify water passively.

Stable, Long-lasting Foundation
Granules maintain structure underwater over prolonged periods, helping preserve substrate porosity, reducing sludge buildup, and supporting healthy root systems.

Beginner-Friendly Yet Advanced
ADA positions Amazonia Ver. 2 as easier to manage in new setups, making it suitable for both newcomers and experienced aquarists.
Because of the included supplement and refined formulation, it aims to reduce the challenges of older Amazonia (e.g. excessive nutrient leaching) while preserving high nutrient performance.

Setup & Usage Guide:

Supplement Layer:
Spread the Amazonia Supplement evenly on the bare bottom of the aquarium (use approximately one packet per 9 L of soil) to enrich nutrient content.

Soil Layer:
Carefully place the Amazonia Ver. 2 substrate over the supplement, ideally creating a gentle slope from front to back for visual depth.

Planting
Plant aquatic species firmly — the soil is designed to accept delicate root systems and encourage fast anchoring.

Water Filling / Initial Phase
Fill the tank gently to avoid disturbing the substrate. During the first weeks, monitor for possible ammonium presence (as is common with nutrient-rich substrates), and conduct light water changes if needed.
Many users report initial pH drift downward due to the buffering action. (In user forums, users have measured pH around 6.4 in tanks using Amazonia V2 with RO water)

Ongoing Care
Continue regular aquarium maintenance: CO₂ injection, liquid fertilization, pruning, and water changes. The substrate will support long-term plant health without needing frequent replacement.

Common Questions & Considerations:

Does it leach ammonia?
As with many nutrient-dense soils, a small initial leaching of ammonium may occur. However, ADA claims that Ver. 2 mitigates excessive leaching via the supplemental pellet method and refined formula.
Many users treat this as part of the “cycling” phase and monitor water parameters until readings stabilize.

Is it suitable for all plants?
Yes — especially for demanding species and carpets — thanks to its nutrient-rich base and optimal pH/hardness environment.
However, for very low-light, slow-growth setups, you may want to monitor fertilization to avoid nutrient excess.

Longevity & Stability
The substrate is engineered to resist breakdown and compaction over time, maintaining good interstitial space for gas and nutrient exchange.
Still, regular maintenance is vital — detritus accumulation can degrade the substrate over many cycles.

pH changes & CO₂ management
Because Amazonia V2 drives pH downward naturally, users often adjust their CO₂ injection to account for the buffer effect.
This also means the substrate contributes to a more stable, plant-friendly pH regime once the aquarium matures.
