DOOA Jungle Base
Aerated foundational layer for paludariums — strengthens substrate breathing in stagnation zones
Product Overview
DOOA Jungle Base is a substrate material specially designed to be laid at the bottom of a paludarium or moist aquarium zone, especially in areas prone to water stagnation. Its function is to act as a breathable base that supports drainage and prevents root rot, creating a healthier environment for above planting layers.
Jungle Base uses pumice as its core granular material, blended with soil microorganisms to support microbial life, and charcoal powder to maintain substrate breathability and inhibit anaerobic zones.
DOOA recommends using Jungle Base together with Jungle Soil (as the upper planting layer) to build a complete paludarium substrate system.
Key Features & Benefits
Enhanced permeability & drainage
The pumice base ensures high porosity, allowing gas exchange and water movement even under saturated conditions.
Microbial support
Pre-inoculated with soil microorganisms to kickstart beneficial biological activity in the substrate.
Charcoal addition for breathability
Charcoal powder helps absorb impurities and supports aeration in lower substrate layers, reducing the chance of root rot or anaerobic zones.
Focus on stagnant zones
Intended especially for areas of the tank where water flow is minimal or prone to stagnation — the base layer helps maintain healthier substrate conditions there.
Neutral to plants & water chemistry
The material is intended as a structural / functional base, not as a heavy fertilizing substrate — it supports the overlying planting medium without impacting water balance unduly.
