Cryptocoryne Parva – Potted Plant
Cryptocoryne Parva is one of the smallest species in the Cryptocoryne family, ideal for creating neat, natural-looking foregrounds in planted aquariums. Known for its compact size and slow growth, this plant is perfect for aquascapers who want a low-maintenance, subtle carpeting effect.
Plant Overview
Cryptocoryne Parva forms small, dense rosettes with narrow green leaves that typically reach between 3 and 8 centimetres in height. Because it grows slowly, it holds its shape beautifully and requires very little trimming. It is an excellent choice for nano aquariums, detailed layouts, and minimalist aquascapes.
Care Requirements
This species thrives under moderate to higher lighting, which keeps its growth compact and encourages healthier, greener leaves. While it can survive in low-tech setups, it grows noticeably faster and more robustly in nutrient-rich substrate with regular root feeding. CO₂ supplementation is not required, but it will enhance growth and carpeting density. Stable water parameters and consistent maintenance will prevent melt during the initial settling period.
Ideal Conditions
Cryptocoryne Parva prefers temperatures between 22 and 28°C and does well in soft to moderately hard water with a pH range of roughly 6.0 to 7.5. It absorbs most of its nutrition through its roots, making good substrate quality important. Plant individual portions a few centimetres apart to allow them to spread naturally across the foreground.
Aquascaping Use
This plant is commonly used as a foreground accent or a low, slow-growing carpet. Its small size makes it suitable for intricate layouts and tanks where proportion and scale are important. It works well with midground plants and hardscape materials, adding texture without overwhelming the design.
