Product details

The Anubias barteri var. nana MP XL is a larger variant of the classic Anubias nana, known for its robust, dark green leaves and its ease of care. This plant is highly valued in aquascaping for its durability, slow growth, and ability to thrive in a wide range of water conditions. Its larger size makes it ideal for midground or background placement in aquariums, where it provides lush, natural coverage.

Key Features:

  • Large, Robust Leaves: This XL variant of Anubias nana has broad, deep green leaves that provide excellent coverage and create a bold, natural look in the aquarium.
  • Low Maintenance: Anubias barteri var. nana MP XL is hardy and requires minimal care, making it suitable for beginners as well as experienced aquarists.
  • Slow Growth: The slow-growing nature of this plant means it requires less frequent trimming and maintenance, making it a hassle-free addition to any aquascape.
  • Versatile: This plant can be attached to rocks and driftwood or placed in the substrate, though the rhizome should not be buried.

Care Requirements:

  • Lighting: Anubias barteri var. nana MP XL thrives in low to medium light conditions, making it an excellent choice for low-tech setups. Excessive light can encourage algae growth on its leaves, so subdued lighting is ideal.
  • CO2: This plant does not require CO2 supplementation, though CO2 can promote faster growth.
  • Water Parameters: Adaptable to a variety of water conditions, this plant prefers a pH range of 6.0-7.5 and temperatures between 20-30°C. Its hardiness allows it to tolerate fluctuations in water quality.
  • Trimming: Due to its slow growth, Anubias nana MP XL requires minimal trimming. Older or damaged leaves can be pruned to maintain the plant’s appearance.

Planting Tips:

  • Avoid burying the rhizome in the substrate, as this can cause rot. Instead, attach the plant to rocks, driftwood, or other hardscapes using thread or fishing line until it anchors itself naturally.
  • Ensure moderate water flow to prevent debris buildup on the leaves and keep the plant healthy.
  • Suitable for aquariums with fish and shrimp, as its tough leaves are resistant to grazing.
