The Anubias hastifolia MP is a distinctive aquatic plant known for its unique arrowhead-shaped leaves and its ability to grow both submerged and emersed. This hardy species adds a bold, structured look to aquariums, thanks to its large, elegant leaves and slow-growing nature. It is ideal for midground and background placement, where it can thrive with minimal care, making it a popular choice among aquarists.
Key Features:
- Arrowhead-Shaped Leaves: The defining feature of Anubias hastifolia is its elongated, arrow-shaped leaves, which create a striking, upright appearance in aquascapes.
- Slow-Growing and Hardy: This plant grows slowly but steadily, requiring little maintenance, and is highly resilient, making it suitable for a range of aquarium conditions.
- Versatile Planting Options: Anubias hastifolia can be attached to driftwood or rocks or placed in the substrate (with the rhizome above the substrate to prevent rot), adding vertical interest and depth to the aquarium.
- Emersed or Submerged Growth: This plant can thrive in both submerged and emersed conditions, making it a versatile choice for aquariums or paludariums.
Care Requirements:
- Lighting: Anubias hastifolia thrives in low to medium light conditions. Like other Anubias species, it prefers subdued lighting to prevent algae from growing on its leaves.
- CO2: This plant does not require CO2 supplementation, though adding CO2 can promote slightly faster growth and better overall health.
- Water Parameters: Anubias hastifolia is highly adaptable and does well in a variety of water conditions, with a pH range of 6.0-7.5 and temperatures between 20-30°C.
- Trimming: The slow growth of Anubias hastifolia means it requires minimal trimming. Old or damaged leaves can be pruned to keep the plant looking fresh.
Planting Tips:
- Avoid burying the rhizome in the substrate, as this can lead to rot. It is best to attach the plant to hardscape elements like rocks or driftwood, using thread or fishing line until it anchors itself naturally.
- Ensure good water flow to prevent debris buildup on the leaves, and avoid placing the plant in strong lighting to minimize algae growth on its surface.
- Anubias hastifolia is suitable for tanks with fish and shrimp, as its sturdy leaves are resistant to grazing.
