Product details

Common Name: Avatar Angelfish
Scientific Name: Pterophyllum scalare
Genus: Pterophyllum
Wild Origin: Selectively bred, with wild ancestors originating from the slow-moving rivers and floodplains of the Amazon Basin in South America

The Avatar Angelfish is a stunning, selectively bred variety of Pterophyllum scalare that features striking iridescent blue and turquoise hues, giving it a distinct and otherworldly appearance, much like the character it draws inspiration from. This angelfish is known for its graceful body, tall, triangular fins, and peaceful demeanor, making it a standout addition to any aquarium. Avatar Angelfish typically grow to about 6 inches (15 cm) in height and can live for 8-10 years in captivity with proper care.

Habitat and Tank Requirements:

In the wild, angelfish inhabit slow-moving, heavily vegetated waters in the Amazon Basin. To replicate their natural environment in a home aquarium, Avatar Angelfish require a spacious tank with vertical room for swimming, warm, soft water, and plenty of plants or hiding places.

Tank Size and Water Parameters:

PARAMETER RECOMMENDED
Tank Size Minimum 120 litres
Temperature 76-82°F (24-28°C)
pH 6.0-7.5
Hardness Soft to moderately hard water, 3-10 dGH

Avatar Angelfish prefer tall tanks with plenty of vertical space to accommodate their long fins and swimming behavior. The tank should be planted with live plants such as Amazon swords, Vallisneria, or Anubias, which will provide cover and replicate their natural habitat. Driftwood and smooth rocks can also enhance their environment and create hiding places. Due to their peaceful nature, a gentle filtration system is ideal to avoid strong currents.

We Recommend:

These carefully selected options provide a well-balanced nutritional profile, ensuring that your fish receive the essential nutrients they need for optimal growth, vibrant colors, and overall health. By offering a variety of these high-quality foods, you can help maintain the vitality and well-being of your fish, promoting a healthy and thriving aquarium environment.

Behavior and Compatibility:

Avatar Angelfish are peaceful and social, making them well-suited for community tanks, though they can become mildly territorial during breeding. They thrive in groups of 5-6 individuals or in pairs, and they are best housed with other calm, non-aggressive species such as tetras, rasboras, Corydoras, and peaceful dwarf gouramis. However, care should be taken with smaller fish, as adult angelfish may view them as prey.

They are also compatible with other peaceful tank mates that share similar water requirements, but it’s important to avoid aggressive species that could cause stress or harm to the angelfish.
