Product details

Common Name: Crown Tail Betta
Scientific Name: Betta splendens
Genus: Betta
Wild Origin: Selectively bred, with wild ancestors originating from Southeast Asia, particularly Thailand and Cambodia

The Crown Tail Betta is a remarkable variety of Betta splendens, known for its unique and striking tail, characterized by elongated fin rays that give the appearance of a crown. This distinctive fin structure makes the Crown Tail Betta a favorite among aquarists looking for a visually stunning fish. Males, in particular, are known for their vibrant colors, which range from deep reds and blues to iridescent greens and purples. These bettas grow to about 2.5 inches (6 cm) and can live for 3-5 years with proper care.

Habitat and Tank Requirements:

Crown Tail Bettas originate from shallow, slow-moving waters in Southeast Asia, such as rice paddies, ponds, and swamps. To replicate their natural environment, they require a calm, well-maintained aquarium with plenty of hiding places and stable, warm water conditions.

Tank Size and Water Parameters:

PARAMETER RECOMMENDED
Tank Size Minimum 10 litres (20 litres or more preferred)
Temperature 76-82°F (24-28°C)
pH 6.0-7.5
Hardness Soft to moderately hard water, 3-12 dGH

Crown Tail Bettas prefer warm, soft water and thrive in tanks with low flow. Due to their delicate fins, strong currents can be stressful for them, so a gentle filtration system is ideal. The tank should be planted with live or silk plants and provide plenty of hiding spots using decorations such as smooth rocks or caves. Bettas also appreciate floating plants that offer shaded areas.

Because they are labyrinth fish, Crown Tail Bettas can breathe air from the surface, making it essential to ensure there’s easy access to the top of the tank. Floating leaves or plants can enhance the environment, mimicking their natural habitat.

We Recommend:

These carefully selected options provide a well-balanced nutritional profile, ensuring that your fish receive the essential nutrients they need for optimal growth, vibrant colors, and overall health. By offering a variety of these high-quality foods, you can help maintain the vitality and well-being of your fish, promoting a healthy and thriving aquarium environment.

Behavior and Compatibility:

Crown Tail Bettas, especially males, are territorial and can be aggressive toward other male Bettas. For this reason, males should always be housed separately to avoid fighting. However, they can coexist with other peaceful, non-aggressive species in a community tank under the right conditions.

Suitable tank mates include small, peaceful fish such as Corydoras catfish, small rasboras, and certain types of shrimp or snails. It’s important to avoid fin-nippers and other aggressive fish, as well as species that may provoke aggression due to their long, flowing fins. Always monitor Betta behavior closely when introducing them to community tanks.
