The Desjardini Sailfin Tang, also known as the Indian Ocean Sailfin Tang, is a stunning and dynamic addition to any large saltwater aquarium. This majestic herbivore is easily recognized by its tall, flowing dorsal and anal fins—resembling a sail when fully extended—and its striking coloration. Adults showcase a dramatic pattern of bold vertical stripes and intricate dots, with hues ranging from silvery gray to golden brown, accented by white, yellow, and deep black markings.

Please note: We ship Livestock Monday-Wednesday to ensure a safe and prompt delivery. Please plan your orders accordingly. We mostly sell Juvenile livestock, adults will be sent if available. We do not sex livestock for customers a mix of males and females will be sent if there is availability.

Shipping

Please note: If the size and weight of your order exceeds the standard box shipping size extra courier fees will be communicated to you after you have placed your order. Due to the complexity of this it can not be calculated during checkout. The website will only calculate the minimum shipping Charge. This is company Policy.

We only ship livestock and plants Monday – Wednesday. All other products can be shipped Monday – Friday. To ensure livestock does not sit in the couriers warehouse over the weekend.

Returns

Non-livestock items are returnable within 7 days upon purchasing. If the item is found to be in working condition, the client will be liable to cover ALL shipping fees. If items is faulty, a full refund or replacement will take place and shipping will be covered by Aqua Atlantis.

The Desjardini Sailfin Tang, also known as the Indian Ocean Sailfin Tang, is a stunning and dynamic addition to any large saltwater aquarium. This majestic herbivore is easily recognized by its tall, flowing dorsal and anal fins—resembling a sail when fully extended—and its striking coloration. Adults showcase a dramatic pattern of bold vertical stripes and intricate dots, with hues ranging from silvery gray to golden brown, accented by white, yellow, and deep black markings.

Native to the Indian Ocean and Red Sea, this tang is both beautiful and beneficial—serving as a natural algae grazer to help keep your tank clean.

Temperament: Semi-aggressive (territorial toward other tangs)

Diet: Herbivore – thrives on marine algae, seaweed (nori), spirulina, and enriched herbivore foods; will also accept mysis/brine shrimp and prepared foods
Maximum Size: ~12–15 inches
Minimum Tank Size: 125 gallons (larger recommended for adults)

Behavior & Compatibility:

  • Peaceful with most fish, but may be aggressive toward other tangs or similar-shaped fish
  • Best kept singly unless in very large systems
  • Constant swimmer—needs plenty of open space and strong filtration

  • Temperature: 75–82°F
  • pH: 8.1–8.4
  • Salinity: 1.023–1.025
  • Water Flow: Moderate to High
  • Aquascape: Live rock for grazing and hiding; open swimming room essential
