Its dense, bushy growth pattern makes it ideal for creating a lush, natural backdrop or a midground cluster that provides visual interest and shelter for aquatic life. This plant is well-known for its hardiness and adaptability, making it suitable for both beginners and experienced aquarists who want to create a thriving, lush aquascape.

Key Features:

  • Bright Green, Dense Leaves: Hygrophila ‘Siamensis’ has lance-shaped leaves that range from light to bright green, depending on light intensity. The dense growth habit helps create a thick and natural-looking bush.
  • Rapid Growth: This plant grows quickly under the right conditions, making it ideal for filling in background areas and creating a jungle-like appearance in the aquarium.
  • Hardy and Versatile: Hygrophila ‘Siamensis’ is highly adaptable and can thrive in a variety of water conditions, from low-tech to high-tech setups.
  • Ideal for Background Planting: Due to its height and dense growth, it works well as a background plant or to add vertical interest to the aquascape.

Care Requirements:

  • Lighting: Hygrophila ‘Siamensis’ requires medium lighting to grow well. Under brighter lighting, the plant develops more vibrant colors and denser foliage.
  • CO2: CO2 supplementation is not strictly necessary, but it will promote faster and more vigorous growth, especially in high-light setups. CO2 can also enhance the plant’s overall health and appearance.
  • Water Parameters: This plant is very adaptable and can tolerate a wide range of water parameters, preferring a pH between 6.0-8.0 and temperatures of 22-28°C. It grows best in nutrient-rich water, benefiting from liquid fertilization or root tabs.
  • Trimming: Due to its fast growth rate, regular trimming is recommended to prevent it from becoming overgrown. Trim back the stems to encourage branching and maintain the desired shape of the plant.

Planting Tips:

  • Plant Hygrophila ‘Siamensis’ in a nutrient-rich substrate, as this will support healthy root development and faster growth.
  • As it grows tall, it can be trimmed regularly, and the cuttings can be replanted to propagate the plant. The trimmed stems will root easily and continue to grow.
  • Position the plant in the background or midground of the aquarium to add height and fullness. Its dense growth provides excellent shelter and hiding spots for fish and shrimp, making it a functional as well as decorative addition to any aquascape.
