Vesicularia Montagnei, more commonly known as Christmas Moss or X-mas Moss is arguably one of the most popular aquatic mosses commonly used in the planted aquarium hobby. Originating from Asia, Christmas Moss is closely related to Java Moss, another extremely popular aquatic moss, and is comparable in appearance with only slight differences in its fronds. Like other aquarium mosses, Christmas Moss is extremely hardy and versatile with usage. Aquarium moss provides excellent shade and coverage for shrimplets and skittish fish who commonly search for refuge. Alternatively, it can be used to mimic foliage on Bonsai-style driftwood or attached sparingly to other types of driftwood for an aged look in the planted tank. Aquarium moss may also be grown in emersed conditions or found wrapped as the base on Wabi Kusa setups!
Aquarium Moss is a fantastic choice for beginner aquarists and will tolerate a wide range of aquarium conditions and water parameters. Once established, Christmas Moss is a prolific grower and may require regular pruning to ensure it does not take over the aquarium. Manual removal is best, but if trimming is required, we recommend turning off filters and pumps to prevent the moss spreading to unwanted areas.
