Product details

The Anubias barteri var. nana is a well-loved aquatic plant known for its broad, dark green leaves and easy-care nature. Anubias nana is a staple in many aquascapes due to its durability, low maintenance, and ability to grow both submerged in aquariums and emersed in paludariums. Its compact size and slow growth make it perfect for adding a touch of green to the foreground or midground, where it can be attached to rocks or driftwood, adding a natural look to any aquarium setup.

Key Features:

  • Broad, Dark Green Leaves: Anubias nana features dense, broad leaves that provide a lush, vibrant green appearance, ideal for adding depth and contrast to aquascapes.
  • Slow Growth: This plant grows slowly, requiring little maintenance, and is perfect for aquarists who prefer a low-maintenance setup.
  • Versatile Planting Options: Anubias nana can be easily attached to hardscapes like driftwood and rocks, making it highly versatile in aquascaping. The rhizome should not be buried in the substrate to avoid rotting.
  • Low Light Tolerance: It thrives in low to medium light, making it an excellent choice for low-tech aquariums or setups with subdued lighting.

Care Requirements:

  • Lighting: Anubias nana prefers low to medium lighting. Higher light can be tolerated, but too much direct light can encourage algae growth on its leaves. Indirect or subdued lighting works best.
  • CO2: While CO2 supplementation is not necessary, it can boost growth and contribute to healthier leaves. However, Anubias nana is well-suited for low-tech tanks without CO2.
  • Water Parameters: This plant is highly adaptable, thriving in a pH range of 6.0-7.5 and temperatures between 20-30°C. It can tolerate minor fluctuations in water parameters, making it a robust choice for various setups.
  • Trimming: Since it grows slowly, Anubias nana requires minimal trimming. Remove older or damaged leaves to maintain its appearance.

Planting Tips:

  • Avoid burying the rhizome in the substrate, as this can lead to rot. Instead, attach Anubias nana to rocks, driftwood, or other hardscape using thread or fishing line until it anchors naturally.
  • It’s ideal for tanks with fish or shrimp, as its tough leaves are resistant to grazing, and it provides shelter for small inhabitants.
  • Ensure moderate water flow to keep the plant clean and free from debris, promoting a healthy and vibrant appearance.
